7 Skin Sins to Avoid

Wondering why your skin might be constantly breaking out? Here are 7 Skin Sins that you may be committing every day without knowing it.

  • Overusing Skin Products
    • The saying, “there’s never too much of a good thing” definitely doesn’t apply to your skincare products and that’s a promise. Using too many products will leave your skin feeling irritated, dry, and can worsen any breakouts. Plus, overbuying can hurt your wallet.
  • Washing Your Face With Hot Water
    • When washing your skin with hot water, it can blast away all the skin’s natural oils and leave your pores open and vulnerable. We recommend washing your skin before the shower to help lock in moisture. If that doesn’t work for you, try washing your face in the shower with lukewarm water.
  • Not Cleaning Everyday Products
    • Everyday items that you probably don't clean daily may be the reason why your skin is breaking out. Pillowcases, cell phones, make-up brushes, and washcloths can hold bacteria that clogs pores and cause blemishes. Cell phones go everywhere with you and touch almost every surface throughout the day.
  • Over-Exfoliating the Skin
    • The key to exfoliating the skin is doing so gently. Aggressive exfoliation or using products that are too harsh will leave the skin feeling inflamed, irritated, tight, and just have overall discomfort. The most important thing to note is that exfoliants include more than just facial scrubs. Products with AHA, BHA, and retinol all exfoliate the skin.
  • Not Moisturizing Oily Skin
    • Don’t let your oily skin fool you, moisturizing is a MUST on all skin types. Your skin will go into overdrive and will make more oil if the skin is dehydrated. The key is to find a moisturizer that balances your skin's microbiome rather than avoiding it all together.
  • Over-Drinking Caffeine
    • A huge cause of dehydration is caffeine whether it be a cup of coffee in the morning or a soda with lunch or dinner, it's important to understand your caffeine intake. Too much caffeine can cause dehydration, toxic build-up, and can cause blood vessels to constrict, not allowing the skin to get the antioxidants and nutrients it needs to produce collagen. If you are going to have caffeine make sure you are drinking at least 4-6 cups of water throughout the day.
  • Ignoring the Chest and Neck Area
    • The last thing you want is for your face to look and feel fabulous, but your neck and chest to look aged and dried up. Make sure you are applying your skincare products to the chest and neck so all of your skin areas glow gorgeously!
